Our client bought this apartment in an elegant 18th Century town house in London because he loved the light from the many tall windows. He wanted the rooms to be uncluttered, with a colour scheme that was light and restful.

All the rooms had oak floors, so we commissioned luxurious rugs in a mixture of silk and wool, in an interesting variety of textures. The emphasis on varying textures was carried through to the chair covers and cushions, and the walls were hand finished in polished stucco, which reflected the light from the windows. Several fine pieces of furniture were designed exclusively for this project, including the shagreen coffee table and the Capiz shell screen in the corner of the main reception room. The layout of the flat is centred on a large open-plan entrance cum dining hall, and when our client is entertaining, the screen is used as a room divider to shield the dining table from the immediate view of the guests as they enter the apartment.

Our design brief was to furnish this apartment in a smart international style for a leading businessman.

Muted colours were used throughout the flat, with the emphasis on contrasting textures and luxurious fabrics such as silk, cashmere and cut velvet. The furniture in the main reception room was centred round a custom-made shagreen coffee table and the walls were given a highly reflective polished stucco finish.
